For that reason, we support a framework in The Sims 4 that makes it easier for you to install and use Mods.
Maxis doesn’t pre-screen, endorse or specifically support any particular Mod. You should use Mods with caution and understand there may be risk. Why does The Sims 4 disable Mods after an update?Because Maxis cannot screen or otherwise support any particular Mod, Mods that previously caused no issues for users may cause problems after an Update, especially a significant Update that corresponds with an Expansion Pack or Game Pack. By disabling Mods when we update, we hope to limit any disruption or problems with your game play and provide you with the opportunity to decide whether to reinstall those Mods. How to re-enable Mods after an updateYou may re-enable Mods that were disabled during an Update via the options menu, however you should use caution and understand there may be risk. You may wish to consider performing the following steps, after the Update, to help determine if your Mods conflict or will cause problems with The Sims 4 Update:. Run The Sims 4 with Mods disabled and load into gameplay to make sure everything is working correctly. Important Note: if you have installed Custom Content, it has been disabled and if you save your game before re-enabling the Custom Content, content may be removed from your saved game.
However, you can verify that the game is functioning correctly without saving so that your Custom Content returns once Mods are re-enabled. Before re-enabling any Mod, but particularly Game Mods, we recommend that you visit the Mod creator’s site to verify that the Mod works with The Sims 4 Update or to see if there is an updated version of the Mod. Once you verify the game is running correctly, re-enable Mods via the options panel.
The setting can be found in “Options Other Enable Custom Content and Mods”. Once you re-enable Mods, you will need to restart the game. Once The Sims 4 is restarted with Mods re-enabled, enter gameplay and verify that the game is working correctly - see the “How to tell if Mods are causing problems” section below. If it is not working correctly, see the “How to find Mods that are causing problems” section below to identify the Mods that are creating issues. Once you have identified the Mods causing problems, remove those Mods and visit the Mod creators’ site to see if there is an updated version that works with new version of the game.
As a member of The Sims Community, you may also wish to contact the Mod creator to let them know their Mod is causing issues. Note that your current game version number can be seen on the lower left hand side of the Main Menu.
How to tell if Mods are causing problemsMods can cause issues and conflict with The Sims 4 game in many different ways, so there is no single way to determine if problems exist. The best way is to just play the game. There may be very obvious problems, such as the game fails to boot or save games fail to load. But the problems may be more subtle.
If using Custom Content, review that content to make sure it looks to be working correctly. If using Game Mods, verify the functionality they provide is still working. How to find problematic ModsOnce you have identified that one or more of your Mods is creating issues, you then need to determine which Mods are the problem.
Since you could potentially have many Mods in your Mods folder, this can be a time consuming process. Here are some tips to speed things up:. Remove all your Mods from the “Mods” folder and add them back in batches.
After adding each batch, run the game to see if the problem persists. Once you determine that a particular batch contains a problematic Mod, remove half of that batch and see if the problem still exists. If it does then remove another half of the batch and try again. If it does not then add back in half of the removed Mods and try again. Repeat this process until the problem Mod is identified.
This type of searching is sometimes referred to in The Sims community as the “50% method”. Since Game Mods are more likely to cause conflicts, start by just removing those Mods (if you have them) to narrow down your search. For more information on The Sims 4 modding,. Race in the Sims?Hello all! I'm a graduate student of Anthropology and a long time Sims player doing a final research project on how players bring real-word race into their gameplay. Part of the project is to talk to people within the community I'm studying and get their opinions. To that end, I have a few specific questions I'd love to hear from people on. Feel free to answer one, all, or none and riff on some other variation of the subject! People are also welcome to PM me if you'd rather and I'll keep anything you say confidential. It may be interesting/useful to bring in your viewpoints on the issues outside of Sims, that's fine but please also include how those views affect your gameplay.1) Presume most people use a range of skintones, so if you use a skin tone that is a similar shade to what a Black person's might be in the real world, do you think of that Sim as Black (or Latinx, Indian, Native American as the case may be)? Do you find yourself more drawn to particular facials feature or hair types that seem to 'match' the skintone?2) Does the issue of cultural appropriation affect how you style/play your sims?
Do you think it should be an issue within the community?3) If you do play with, or in some way model your sims after, real world races, do you worry about them being 'authentic,' meaning an accurate reflection of Black/Latinx/etc cultural and physical characteristics? Has anyone in the community ever told you that a Sim you posted a pic of was unauthentic/have you seen this happen/have you seen a sim that you believe misrepresented a specific race? (No need to name names, particularly interested in what specifically was said to be unauthentic)That's it for now.
If any of these are unclear let me know. If you have any questions about me, the project, or anything else please do ask either here or via PM. Race doesn't exist in my game.
They're all sims, even the aliens. I'll base sims on real life people so their hair and skin will reflect that. On a similar note, I give white sims dreads all the time.2. I do not give a flyingfuckasarus about cultural appropriation. It's already an issue in the (tumblr side) of the community and that side of the community is incredibly stupid for making it an issue.3.
Most of the sims I post are white or rainbow/alien sims for this very reason. No matter how sensitive and respectful you are, there is always going to be some special snowflake crying that you did it wrong and your sims don't look authentic enough. I need to stop caring what these idiots think, but I've already gotten anon hate over my SOCs and it pisses me off. I do use different skintone but I don't think of them as races, thay're sims, not people. I don't match any facial features or particular hairstyles to their skin colour.2.I don't understand 'cultural appropriation' or how it's different from 'cultural appreciation'. I don't think it should be an issue,I feel like it's a bit of a forced problem.3. I usually just do whatever looks good to me.I don't share my sims with the comunity but some irl friends have mentioned that darker skintones don't look good with certain eye and hair colours.
I haven't seen anything in the community that makes me feel like it's a misrepresentation of a certain race since sims don't really represent real life races in my mind. 1) Yes, when I create a sim of a certain skin color, I do try to match their features, that having been said there is no one particular type as there are many ethnic groups within a 'skin tone'.2) I have wondered about this myself. How are POC in the community feeling about the City expansion with all its different cultures represented? Do they feel like it is appropriation? I feel like its important to listen to their voices. Of course as a white person I can look at it and be objective, its not my culture that's being represented.
I would hope that EA would have consulted on this.3) When I created two of my POC sims I definitely used online photos as a reference. I wouldn't tend to do that with white sims unless I was going for a particular look of a celebrity. ABSOLUTELY I worry about them being an accurate representation. Nobody has ever accused me of this as I haven't shared many of them nor have I gotten much feedback. It is something I take seriously though. I don't want to offend anyone. As several people have already mentioned, I don't look at them as different races, just as 'sims'.
I sometimes match hair because it looks good, and I may or may not match facial features, it varies.2. It affects me on a subconscious level a teeny tiny bit, but to refer to point 1, I don't see my sims as different races so it's as good of a non-existant problem (to me).3. It doesn't matter in my own, private game, but I'm sure I'd be 'told off' if I did decide to share some sims or pictures of them to, for example, Tumblr. I don't do that, so that's also a non-existant problem (to me).
Anthropology is the study of humanity, so your questions are not really concerned with sims as it is more you are studying the responses of the simmers, they are the actual subject of your study. Very well crafted, sir. Sneaky, but well done.1) I only have Asians in my world. Because I'm Asian and I love living in Asia. Right now I'm living in America, but I don't feel. So I play Bridgeport as nostalgic trip back to the days I use to live in Seoul.
So facial features, yes my Asian sims have western facial features b/c Seoul is the plastic surgery capital of the world. I miss those plastic Koreans.2) Nope. It is a game. Let people build their worlds in whichever way they seem fit.
Some people want to play a whole medieval world.3) No, not really. I mean, race is a lot more than physical outlook, it is about the internal characteristics right?
Sims 3 comes with 'Asian' trait, but all that does is allow them to sing songs from Sim China. Weird.I'm sorry if my responses are not helpful, but perhaps this will.I'm actually quite offended with Sims 3 WA travel. Their depiction of Sim China is racist in my opinion.
People in China don't dress like that. They wear blue jeans, tshirt, suits, etc.
Like the rest of modern world. I find it highly offensive how they portrayed this world in Sims 3. I thought that the term 'race' had become obsolete within the field of anthropology, unless you mean the competitive driving around in cars at fast speed - which in the context of Sims 4, where you posted this, is impossible.I find the term race higly problematic. It's not easy determining what it really means and in Europe the nazies kind of stole that term for their race term which only deals with facial structures and such.Being a European I see people as physical beings with a cultural background. Very often people may look like socalled blacks, but has the cultural background of a american and such has very little in common with an african black. If race is a cultural term it's useless really because it's so linked to what people look like. From a dna point of view it's useless, because biologi is far more complicated. There may be more variations within a race than it is across different races.Last but not least, being a European, I'm offended.
Find a different term! And I'm white with viking blood in my vains. Knowing the ancient world there is highly likely I have asian slave blood in my vains as well. Go figure!I can also inform you that at the University of Oslo where I studied Social Anthropology, we were told not to use that term.
3) If you do play with, or in some way model your sims after, real world races, do you worry about them being 'authentic,' meaning an accurate reflection of Black/Latinx/etc cultural and physical characteristics? Has anyone in the community ever told you that a Sim you posted a pic of was unauthentic/have you seen this happen/have you seen a sim that you believe misrepresented a specific race?
(No need to name names, particularly interested in what specifically was said to be unauthentic)Again the term of race. I don't know what to do with that term. I remember someone wanted to make a Korean sim and it looked more Japanese, that was important to me, but I wouldn't bother if the label was only Asian. In this case race wouldn't work because Korean and Japanese belongs to the same 'race', but Koreans are distinguisable to Japanese for someone who knows.
I'm actually quite offended with Sims 3 WA travel. Their depiction of Sim China is racist in my opinion. People in China don't dress like that. They wear blue jeans, tshirt, suits, etc. Like the rest of modern world.
I find it highly offensive how they portrayed this world in Sims 3.That is interesting, but if we compare it to my native country. We have these national costumes:This is the Telemark bunad. It's actually rather expensive, about 5000 GBP or something, a rather expensive weddingdress. This is what some people like to wear on our national day.Point being if EA made a norwegian world with everyone wearing these. I would be proud 'everyone gets to see our lovely national costumes', have a good laugh thinking what a crazy idea. In a while I would probably be fed up with them too, I mean the option of cloth to wear is a bit limited. No one thinks Chinese are left in the past anymore. Parts of China is, but they don't count when we have to address these rich Chinese buying all our companies.
It's like Civilization VI really. It makes it more fun when you see people with different costumes, only thing being you don't get to dress them up. No, I think in terms of cultural history of that person. No, it's way too complicated. I create a story and make a person that fit.Again the term of race. I don't know what to do with that term. I remember someone wanted to make a Korean sim and it looked more Japanese, that was important to me, but I wouldn't bother if the label was only Asian.
In this case race wouldn't work because Korean and Japanese belongs to the same 'race', but Koreans are distinguisable to Japanese for someone who knows.Your game is my game. As a 'black' person, my sims live like I do in the real world. Colour is less interesting and often forgotten, because it's cultural differences that are interesting, and that's not a 'race' thing. Depends of game style chosen. One time it's just one big sims' universal simworldwide family, sometimes communities very harsh (if not simply hostile) to any stranger or any 'inapropriate' sim in whatever way they defined theirs vision of 'beign one of us', however I rarely play such, in fact unfortunatelly realistic style, nowadays. That includes the 'race' not necesary defined by colour or particular shape (hm.
'design'?), gender, social status and so on.I played once (Sims2) kinda of pseudo-historic theme starting with community full of mysogynic beliefs, slavery and ' 'ol good stuff' which evolved into something more modern with time, where these topics were still present however hidden and surpressed until kind of local sims' 'conservative revolution' has risen. And then the neighbourhood blown, and that world ended.Another time, in quite opposite fashion I started from very idealistic future modern-ish community sent into the Space, which evolved, struggling for survival, into almost canonic, dystopian, brutal and barbaric futuristic tribe. However slavery there was mostly reserved for sentient machines, or rather 'androids' (or kind of humanoid Cylons), because actual EA future machines' imaginations (like also supernaturals) have never been appealing for me.So: 'yes' and 'not'.
Thought, with time - any 'realistic' (kinda) theme has worn off for me, actual reality is unpleasant enough. No need to reproduce it in the game. But I understand temptation to use the game as kind of small 'social laboratory' with all its limitations of course. Sims 2 player here, but this is an interesting topic.1) Yes, but at the same time it doesn't matter. So yes, I do think of Sims as belonging to a culture or ethnicity but aside from naming (sometimes) this doesn't affect the way I play them.2) Cultural Appropriation isn't really an issue outside of the US.3) Yes, because I prefer my Sims to look semi-realistic, but I'm not getting hung up on it either. If a dark skinned sim is born with blonde or red hair I'll change it to black once they are toddlers. I know people with dark skin can have blonde or red hair in real life, but that's exceedingly rare, it happens way too often in Sims 2.
Point being if EA made a norwegian world with everyone wearing these. I would be proud 'everyone gets to see our lovely national costumes', have a good laugh thinking what a crazy idea. In a while I would probably be fed up with them too, I mean the option of cloth to wear is a bit limited. That's an interesting take. But as you can see from your photo, that Norweigian clothes is highly decorative. The sims in TS3 WA are wearing cheap looking clothes and look like they're in the stone age. Both the Chinese's hanpao and the Manchurian qipao come in very exquisite and decorative designs, much like kimonos and hanbuks. I also don't approve some people calling qipao as 'traditional Chinese clothes.'
It is Manchurian, not Chinese. It is equivalent as saying the kilt is a traditional UK clothes. I'm not actually culturally offended, I'm OCD offended b/c people are miscategorizing it.Anyways, I wonder if Egyptians are upset with WA's Egypt world.
There's an Egyptian simmer here, Harvee? Maybe he'll give us his 2 cents when he finds this thread. @Renatti, are you only wanting Sims 4 players to answer these questions, since you posted it only on the Sims 4 board? I am going to assume that no, you mean it for all sims players and didn't know where to post it. Also I didn't open this thread for ages because I thought it was on racing. Like horse racing.1) Sometimes yes but most times no.
I use a range of skintones mostly because I enjoy the genetics is sims 2 the same way I use a variety of hair and eye colours, I like to see the children and grandchildren with a diverse range of looks. I do tend to use hair or eyes that 'match' the skin tone. Occasionally I will make a family with an actual nationality in mind but I don't share them because I do not consider myself a sim maker, and others would not appreciate or think they are anything like what I think they are. This doesn't matter to me because they are not for others only my own game.2) Not for personal use no.
If someone is making a sim or an article of clothing or other object to share that is a different story. If you make something and get it all wrong and put it up for download saying this is X culture and isn't it great, then I think you can expect criticism. Of course when EA does it, with the example given by nitromon then its worse. It can't be removed from the game except by a default replacement.3) No because I don't share them. That's an interesting take.

I can be easily offended if they select the wrong costume as well. I know al about cheap look, ts4 is full of it. I'm actually quite offended with Sims 3 WA travel. Their depiction of Sim China is racist in my opinion. People in China don't dress like that.
Sims 4 Murder Mod
They wear blue jeans, tshirt, suits, etc. Like the rest of modern world.
I find it highly offensive how they portrayed this world in Sims 3.Sims is not supposed to be real. Each of the 3 travel locations was done in a stereotypical manner to distinguish them and make them match historical perceptions about those cultures/locations. If you go to Disneyland you will see people dressed as Mickey Mouse.I have been to Chinatown in San Francisco many times. Why do people go there?
Because of the Chinese traditional aspects of it. There are dolls for sale galore. They are not sold in blue jeans and t-shirts. People appreciate and like seeing the traditional looks and items.IMO there is zero reason to be offended with what EA did and it was not racist at all, as far as being demeaning.
Usually I play with hybrid supernaturals, so my Sims are a mix of everything usually.1) I love all skin tones even the non-human tones.2) I play Sims of all cultures and backgrounds, so it isn't an issue for me. I was raised with the idea that all humans are equal and I'm mixed race of many different cultures.3) Only authentic thing I worry about is if I'm modeling a Sim after a real person or not.
Am I inspired by my surroundings when making stories? Sure, but Sims is a series I view as free from all types of prejudices and boundaries.I do think the Sims 4 is too limited with skin tones however. When it comes to making realistic culturally diverse Sims, I have more freedom with the Sims 3 for that. The Sims 4 comes off as too stereotypically modern to be culturally unique. I did cringe at some of the pictures of the outfits that were supposed to different cultures in City Living EP.
They came off as too American and Into the Future inspired. I have to agree with the Sims 3 WA could have done a better job showing culture. Sims is not supposed to be real. Each of the 3 travel locations was done in a stereotypical manner to distinguish them and make them match historical perceptions about those cultures/locations. If you go to Disneyland you will see people dressed as Mickey Mouse.I have been to Chinatown in San Francisco many times. Why do people go there?

It destinguash us from them, a very important thing about culture is us vs them or just identity.Sometimes I get the impressions us'ians think culture is a comic series.
Lots of people just feel like you step on their identity.Edit: was difficult getting this right lol.

We especially like transforming our sim from a basketball draft pick to league MVP in the career.A word of warning: these custom careers won’t work with most career overhaul mods, such as Turbo Careers—but don’t let that put you off. Emotional InertiaSims are an emotional bunch, and their moods flip like a light switch.
Just doing the simplest of activities—having an good meal in a well-decorated room—will fill them with joy for a few hours, but then the feeling will vanish. If that’s not to your taste, or if you think the system is just too easy to control, then you might want to download. It makes emotions more meaningful: they’ll last longer, it’ll be harder to override them, and it will take more effort to reach the upper ranks of each one.

You’ll no longer have an iron grip over whether your Sims are up or down, which makes them feel a bit more like real people. Custom food interactionsIf you want more culinary creativity, then is the only place you should start. Grab an optional bib to make sure you don’t accidentally salivate on your keyboard. Have Some Personality Please! This is one of our favourites on the best Sims 4 mods list. It's a huge overhaul of—as you can probably guess—the way Sims’ personalities work. It changes lots in the background (read the description on the for an exhaustive list) but the best thing about it is that it eliminates all idle conversations. Never again will two Sims blab aimlessly to each other about nothing in particular: instead, they’ll be forced to choose an interaction, which is far more interesting. Those interactions aren’t random, either: the mod will select them based on traits, moods and the existing relationships between the two Sims in question, which will give them a greater sense of autonomy than ever before. Expect more kisses from love interests—and more sucker punches from your enemies.
Become a SorcerorDo you miss the magic of previous Sims games? Adds a hearty serving of the supernatural, letting your Sims sling magic spells that can either suck the sadness out of a friend or strike down an enemy with a bolt of lightning. You just need to touch lump of clay, choose one of three rituals—they’ll determine which Needs are replaced with new magical ones—and get to casting. Using magic strengthens your powers and unlocks new spells, but it also depletes your “Magical Connection” (a mana bar, basically), and you’ll have to drain either yourself or another Sim to replenish it.Depending on your choices, you’ll lean towards good or evil, which changes the type of spells you can cast. Do-gooders can eventually bring ghosts back to life, but if that doesn’t sound like fun, just set fire to a table instead. If you’re bored of your current playthrough, then this is bound to liven it up.New personality traitsMany of the best Sims 4 mods affect the ways Sims interact with each other.
The Sims 4 has a that change the way a Sim behaves, and because they’re relatively easy for modders to create you can quickly expand that list through custom content. The, for example, lets Sims improve their gaming and programming skills faster, while the lets you spawn human-machine hybrid Sims, or just full-on robots who must visit a recharging station every few hours. There are tonnes of or you can grab pre-made packages of traits, from modder KawaiiStacie. It will make your Sims natural salespeople, born artists, or slick dancers. Get ready to bust a move.Want to try out several new traits at once? Build your own houseboatIf you’re tired on living on land then this mod lets you take to the water, transforming the game’s decorative boat models into full-on houseboats. They look pretty, and the limited space means you’ll have to get creative with what furniture you try to pack into them. It’s a good choice for a minimalist designer.
